Bio

Dr. Maryanovich is studying the effects of aging on the environment in which blood stem cells are produced. Her preliminary research has shown that aging leads to the loss of nerves that penetrate the bone marrow, and that adding back neural signals to older bone marrow can significantly rejuvenate blood stem cell function. Her research will specifically evaluate the role of nerves on the longevity of stem cells that support blood formation. This approach will help advance therapies for blood diseases associated with aging.
