George Kai Wang, MD, PhD
Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University
MD, Tongji Medical College, China
PhD, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Postdoctoral Training, Columbia University
Dr. Wang focused his research on Long QT Syndrome (LQTS), a congenital heart disorder associated with life-threatening arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death in adults, as well as sudden infant death syndrome. By using stem cell-derived heart cells carrying the mutation responsible for LQTS, he created a new cellular model that may enable the screening of drugs to treat the condition. This could potentially yield mutation-specific drug therapies for LQTS patients, and generate more cost-efficient stem cell models to facilitate the study of personalized medicine. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Columbia in Dr. Robert Kass’ lab.
