Laura Andres-Martin, PhD
Senior Research Investigator, Oncology
2015 NYSCF – Druckenmiller Fellow Alumna
PhD, University of Salamanca, Spain
Bio
Dr. Andres-Martin leads the NYSCF Women’s Reproductive Cancers Initiative and ovarian cancer research at NYSCF. She joined NYSCF in 2018. She is an expert in adult stem cells and cancer biology.
Dr. Andres-Martin received her PhD from the University of Salamanca in Spain, studying cancer and rare diseases. She then served as a postdoc at Weill Cornell Medicine, where she studied neurodegeneration and adult stem cells. In 2015, she received the NYSCF – Druckenmiller postdoctoral fellowship, which supported her research on the mechanisms that underlie increased disease risk due to stem cell dysfunction.
At NYSCF, Dr. Andres-Martin leads the cancer program with research focused on applying and developing stem cell technologies to create a ‘living biobank’ of patient-specific tumor avatars known as organoids, as a community resource to accelerate ovarian cancer research worldwide. She is also leveraging these organoids to predict which therapies will work best for each patient, to develop new treatments, and to understand the basis of therapy resistance in cancer.
