NYSCF’s Associate Vice President of Scientific Outreach Dr. Raeka Aiyar leads an interactive webinar on how to publish your manuscripts like a pro, from the do’s and don’ts of scientific writing to designing informative figures to how (not) to handle editors and peer review.
This webinar is designed for scientists and those interested in learning more about the scientific publishing process.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Raeka Aiyar is a molecular biologist turned science communicator, with over a decade of experience in helping scientists to write about, talk about, and fund their research. Trained in bioinformatics at the University of Waterloo, she received her Ph.D. at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Germany studying functional genomics. Since her postdoctoral work, Dr. Aiyar has spent years exercising her passion for science communication, engaging a variety of audiences through writing, training, and outreach. As Scientific Communications Officer at EMBL, she supported all of her lab’s manuscripts, presentations, and grants for several years. She next served the broader genetics research community as Communications and Engagement Manager at the Genetics Society of America, where she worked closely with journal editors. As Director of Communications and Development at the Stanford Genome Technology Center, she led a wide range of efforts in scientific strategy, fundraising, research project management, conference planning, and collaboration building. In her current role at NYSCF overseeing scientific communications and outreach, she supports NYSCF’s intramural research scientists through science writing, communications training, collaboration building, and grants strategy, and spreads the word about their research through communications materials and initiatives as well as scientific event programming.
