Dr. Hemalatha is using stem cells to understand how cancer-causing mutations accumulate in skin, and whether their effects on cellular metabolism – the biochemical reactions that keep cells functioning – could impact the onset of skin cancer. She hopes this work will lead to better strategies for early detection and treatment of skin cancer.
