Bio
Dr. Lafaille focused his research on Herpes simplex virus-1 encephalitis (HSE), a rare and life-threatening disease that manifests only in certain children. HSE specifically targets brain cells via nerves related to smell and chewing. By using stem cells as a model, he was able to pinpoint which protein of the immune system affects the lack of immunity to this disease. He continues to study the development of the disease in HSE patients, comparing their brain cells to those of healthy controls. He completed his postdoctoral studies at Rockefeller in Dr. Jean-Laurent Cassanova’s lab.
