Bio
Dr. Shim worked to create a novel method for creating stem cell-derived dopamine neurons, the loss of which characterizes Parkinson’s disease. His main interest was to create dopamine neurons that would remain dopamine neurons after they were transplanted into the brain. He successfully transplanted these cells into animal models, including monkeys. He continues his efforts to use stem cells to generate functional dopamine neurons in order to support the study and treatment of Parkinson’s disease. He completed his postdoctoral studies at MSKCC in Lorenz Studer’s lab.
