Bio

Dr. Greally is a specialist in clinical genetics, with an emphasis on rare and congenital diseases. He uses advanced genomic technologies to diagnose genetic conditions and is a pioneer in understanding how understudied, non-coding regions of the genome contribute to disease, from his research program in epigenetics. As a clinician working in the most diverse county in the US, Dr. Greally is committed to delivering medical care to minoritized communities and learning how to perform research studies with and directed by these frequently exploited groups. He established the New York Center for Rare Diseases (NYCRD) in 2023, recognised as a Center of Excellence by the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD).

Dr. Greally’s work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, chapters, and books, and he has presented nationally and internationally. He is a section editor for Epigenetics at PLOS Genetics and sits on the editorial board of the journal Epigenetics and Chromatin. He is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics and a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Dr. Greally has mentored numerous early stage researchers, receiving the Mentor of the Year award in Basic Science in 2014 from Montefiore Einstein.

Dr. Greally obtained his medical degree in 1988, his Ph.D. in 1999 and his Doctorate of Medicine in 2016 from the National University of Ireland in Galway, Ireland.

Dr. Greally serves as a collaborator and external advisor on NYSCF’s biobank.
