Bio

Dr. Flames identified a combination of proteins required to initiate and maintain the expression of critical genes that cause a cell to become a brain cell. By determining what molecules are required to create brain cells from stem cells, her research could advance cell replacement therapy for Parkinson’s disease and other neurodevelopmental disorders. She is continuing this research in her current independent role. She completed her postdoctoral studies at Columbia in Oliver Hobert’s lab.
