Oren Ziv, PhD

Dr. Ziv based his work on congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI), a rare disease with clinical manifestations opposite to diabetes in that the body produces too much insulin, leading to life-threatening hypoglycemia. He discovered that clusters of cells in CHI patients were larger than normal and that there was a higher number of cells undergoing cell death. These finding suggested that sugar metabolism in CHI patients induced stressful and toxic effects. Dr. Ziv hopes to apply this work for diabetes research and treatments. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Dr. Yuval Dor’s lab.
