Bio

Dr. Yoo is researching cell therapies for brain disorders. He and his colleagues have developed a highly efficient method to replace virtually all microglia, the immune cells of the brain, with cells derived from bone marrow. Currently, the replacement method can only be carried out through chemotherapy, which can cause life threatening side effects and limits the ability to introduce genetically engineered cells. He is aiming to develop solutions to these limitations to develop a non-invasive and safe microglia replacement protocol.
