New Ideas to Streamline Pharmaceutical Development Shared in TED Talks
As NYSCF CEO Susan L. Solomon revealed in her TED Global talk this past summer, the current model of drug development is broken: it takes, on average, 13 years and costs $4 billion dollars to bring a drug to market. In a TED Blog post, Solomon's full talk along with others' reveal groundbreaking ideas that promise to revolutionize how drugs are discovered and tested. In Solomon's talk, she explains how stem cells act as "windows on a disease" by recapitulating the actual characteristics of the disease. Promising compounds can be tested directly on these cells to determine efficacy and toxicity in the dish.
