Susan L. Solomon and Valentina Fossati Interviewed on Nantucket 228

On Nantucket television program 228, NYSCF CEO Susan L. Solomon and NYSCF – Helmsley Investigator Valentina Fossati joined host Kate Brosnan to discuss the tremendous impact NYSCF has made on the field of stem cell research. Solomon described how she founded NYSCF to accelerate stem cell research to find cures to diseases. Asked to explain what stem cells are, Solomon explained that researchers can take skin cells and essentially “turn back the clock” to generate induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. These cells, Fossati added, can be reprogrammed to all other cell types that compose our body. With NYSCF’s support, important discoveries have been made in regenerative medicine that may lead to cures to disease.
