NYSCF Applauds NIH’s Approval of Stem Cell Lines
Press ReleaseToday, Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), announced that 13 new stem cell lines have been approved for federal research support. The New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF) is very proud that Dr. Scott Noggle, the Director of the NYSCF Stem Cell Laboratory, derived 2 of the newly-approved stem cell lines while he was at The Rockefeller University in Dr. Ali Brivanlou's lab. All of the other lines were derived in a laboratory at Harvard University.
We are delighted with this announcement because NIH-supported scientists all over the country will now be able to use these lines to advance research on a wide variety of diseases.
The announcement today underlines the important role of NYSCF in deriving stem cell lines that NIH-funded researchers can use for their research. Under current regulations federal money cannot be used to derive stem cell lines.
