Filippo Cipriani, PhD

Principal Scientist, Diabetes

2019 NYSCF – Druckenmiller Fellow

PhD, University of Valladolid, Spain

Bio

Dr. Cipriani leads the type 2 diabetes research team at NYSCF, with a focus on using stem cells to develop robust models of diabetes on a large scale, to capture how the disease affects diverse patient populations. He joined NYSCF in 2019.

Dr. Cipriani received his PhD in biomedical research from the University of Valladolid in Spain, where he developed novel biomaterials for tissue engineering application in the field of regenerative medicine. In 2019, he became a NYSCF – Druckenmiller Fellow.

By leveraging the NYSCF Global Stem Cell Array®, the NYSCF Research Institute’s automated platform for stem cell production, he is developing a fully automated approach for the generation of patient-specific, stem-cell-derived pancreatic cells, minimizing experimental variation. This will enable population-scale disease modeling of diabetes, helping scientists understand how the disease varies so widely across patients and what that means for their treatment.
